MATTHEW KING / I FEEL LIKE GOING HOME TO BED, BUT IT’S ONLY NOON
Firstly, I would like to thank all of you who made it my opening (or proto opening) last week Wednesday. Thank you, very much. It is very encouraging to have one’s practice legitimated by an opening like that, especially when that practice is experimental, flakey, and quite frankly, a bit wishy-washy (in keeping with the themes of my show, that is a Peanuts reference).
That being said, this is a notice of the closing of my show. The closing event will take place on Wednesday the 27th, although really it is more of an actual opening, as there will now be work on the walls of the gallery. What this means is that you all will have something to look at while you drink wine.
I have been working fairly diligently in the space, this past week, and the work has now taken a proper shape. I have become quite fond of the notion that I am closing the show essentially at the work’s peak. It is a nice inversion, I think. To start off boring, and end hopefully, excitingly. If you would still like to visit me in the gallery/studio space, that would be great. I am there most weekday afternoons, and probably during this weekend as well.
In a sense, I feel it is a bit much to ask people to attend two events for one show, but I would appreciate it if you all came back to witness the work in a much more developed state. It is my hope that in the two week gap between these two events, some small part of the show has stayed with you, and that this closing will be a chance for you to come back and explore the work that I am presenting. But if you just want to come and hang out, that’s cool too. Hopefully it won’t be so windy this time.
I’m still not very sure how this has all panned out, and how it will continue to pan out, but so far, I think it’s gone better than I expected. Although I don’t think this release was as good as my last one.
I hope to see you all there.
I still hope you have been having a good day.
